Azerbaijan exports about 250,000 kw per hour of electricity to Russia a day

05 January 2010 [15:21] - TODAY.AZ
Azerenergy Public Union exports 200,000-250,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per day to Russia, Azerenergy Vice-president Marlen Asgarov said at a news conference today.
According to Asgarov, electricity is exported to Russia at night time, as the country has its excess during this period.

For Azerenergy it is disadvantageous to stop the work of large power plants, since the switching on/off the station is fraught with loss of time and money.

Regarding the interconnection of the Russian, Azerbaijani and Iranian power systems, Asgarov said that Moscow and Tehran are negotiating on this matter.

"Azerbaijan is ready to implement this project because it will allow to export its own electricity, as well as get income from the transit of energy through its territory," he added.
