Bread prices should be reduced in Azerbaijan: minister

"If prices on domestic grain production reduce in the country, along with exporter countries, at least by 50 percent, it should also impact cost of bread," Abbasov said.

"However, the ministry cannot control the price of bread, but only may give its recommendations about it," Abasov added.

The minister said in 2009 Azerbaijan produced 2.14 million tons of grain with domestic demand totaling 1.6 million tons.

"Despite the increase in domestic production of grain, it is difficult to talk about complete refusal from the import as some farmers may also export their grain," the minister said.

Bread costs 0.30 manat in Azerbaijan.
