Turkmenistan’s initiative to diverse pipeline system is important: Former U.S Secretary of State

Speaking about Turkmenistan's active position on reliable and stable energy transit, Former U.S Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, stressed the importance of initiatives to diversity the Turkmen export pipeline system.
Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov met with Henry Kissinger, a prominent American statesman, diplomat and expert on international relations, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, in the New York hotel Plaza, which housed the temporary residence of the Turkmen leader, the Turkmen national Altyn Asyr TV channel reported.

"Turkmenistan plays an important role in ensuring peace and stability in the Central Asia due to its geographical position and consistently pursued a policy of neutrality, which certainly had a positive impact on the country's authority in the world community," the same source reported with reference to the American politician.

Berdimuhammedov noted that "values the opportunity to hear the views of the reputable politician on issues that are of interest to the international community, as well as to talk about the Turkmen-American relations."

Following confirmation of the world's gas volumes, Turkmenistan claims to a role of one of the key players in the Caspian region's energy market. In addition to supplies to Russia, which has been temporarily suspended, Turkmenistan will export fuel to China and increase capacity of the gas network to Iran by late 2009.
