Azerbaijan coordinates GSM channels in the territories bordered with
Iran, the state radio frequencies department at the Azerbaijani
Communications and Information Technology (IT) said.
The chief engineer of the department Ilham Efendiyev will visit Iran and take part in a meeting to coordinate GSM channels in border areas from June 1 to 3 in Tehran.

In April 2008, the delegation consisting of officials and representatives of the Ministry and GSM-operators of Azerbaijan visited Georgia and Azerbaijani territories bordered with Georgia.

The purpose of the meeting was to address the intersection of GSM frequencies in border areas and ensure the normal operation of mobile communication in these areas. The parties also conducted a joint monitoring of the frequency channels of GSM.

In Azerbaijan today, there are three GSM operators - Azercell Telecom, Azerfon and Bakcell.

The total number of mobile subscribers in the country is more than 5 million people.
