Azerbaijan plays important role in European energy security: Romanian ambassador

Ureke said Azerbaijan is of great significance for NATO in terms of energy security. Azerbaijan is one of the largest oil and gas producers, he said.

Romanian ambassador noted country's opportunities as a transit country.

"Azerbaijan has all necessary potential to become transit country specifically regarding transport of energy sources from the Central Asia to Europe," Ureke said at a conference "System of European Security and NATO" in Baku.

Azerbaijan-Romania trade turnover totaled $1.6 million in Jan.-Feb. 2009 according to the State Statistics Committee.
