SOCAR to launch platform in giant offshore field

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) will put a new platform (No. 2415) into exploitation in the giant offshore Neft Dashlari field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian sea soon, the company said.
At present the platform is undergoing test drilling work.

The Neft Dashlari-2415 platform was installed in 23 meters of depth. It is planned to drill 12 wells from the platform.

SOCAR plans to launch the Neft Dashlari-2521 platform by late 2009. This platform has been installed. Height of its units is 27 meters. It is planned to drill 12 wells from the platform.

SOCAR is constructing four-unit Neft Dashlari-2585 platform. Height of its units is 64 meter. The platform will be installed at 54 meters of depth and 500 meters of five-unit Neft Dashlari-1887 platform.

These measures are taken as part of the Azerbaijani president's decree to increase production at Neft Dashlari Oil and Gas Production Unity (OGPU) from 812,000 tons of oil to 1.2 million tons (by 1.5 times).

According to SOCAR geologists' estimates, the remained amount of oil in Neft Dashlari field makes up 30 million tons. SOCAR will drill 78 new wells to up production in the field by 2010. First, new platforms are necessary to maintain stable amount of oil production in the field whose reserves were considerably produced.
