Galib Gurbanov: "Internet in Azerbaijan is expensive as 92-97% of local users visit foreign websites"

"Internet in Azerbaijan is really expensive, as most people, using the global net in Azerbaijan, visit foreign websites in 92-97% of cases, said chairman of the Internet community of Azerbaijan Galib Gurbanov speaking about the situation on the market of Internet services.

According to him, users in the countries of Europe, Russia and Turkey, mostly visit local internet websites.

"Azerbaijan is a small country and can not have such large scale internet resources as European countries.

For this reason in Azerbaijan "loading" in the internet falls on the international communication channels, therefore local providers, unlike foreign colleagues, have to pay additional funds for collection to global net.

Though Delta Telecom, supplying internet flows to the country, has reduced tariffs for Azerbaijani internet providers thrice through the past year, prices remain high enough. This is because our country is far from world internet flows that expenses on fiber-optic communication channels from Europe to Azerbaijan are too high. And in cases when users mostly visit local websites, it is not necessary to connect to global net. In this connection, in Azerbaijan the expenses of lobal providers exceeds the same indicator of the neighbor countries several times.

Therefore, our provider companies have to pay more for connection to global website of Internet, as well as the use of communication lines in the country", concluded Gurbanov.
