New State Program for Development of Communication and Informational Technologies to be worked out in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Communication and Informational Technologies is to work a out a draft new State Program for development of communication and informational technologies in the country.

According to Rauf Gulmamedov, chief of department for development of informational society under the Ministry, the decision to create a work group for the project development was adopted at the recently held session of the scientific and technical council under the Ministry of Communication and Informational Technologies.

The preliminary version of the draft is expected to be worked out within 2-3 months and the program itself will cover a period from 2009 until 2012.

It should be noted that execution of the State Program for Development of Communication and Informational Technologies in Azerbaijan, approved by the President on December 21, 2005, will finish late 2008.

The program envisions effective use of Azerbaijan's potential, comprehensive modernization of Communication and Informational Technologies,  formation of CIT-sector, raising new investments, adherence to principles of free market and sound competition, and Azerbaijan's transformation into an informational society.
