Azerbaijan to import electricity from Iran, if talks with Russia fail

20 November 2006 [14:43] - TODAY.AZ
"If the negotiations with Russia on electrical energy imports remain fruitless, Azerbaijan will alternatively consider the plan to import electricity from Iran," said Azerenergy Vice-President Marlen Asgarov.

He told APA that Azerbaijan is not discussing the issue with Iran at present because of the current negotiations with Russia. "Electricity generation fell in Russia by 20% and RAO EES intends to transfer 60 megawatts of electricity in peak hours. Russia up to now exported between 200 and 250 megawatts of electricity against 300 megawatts as per the agreement," he said.

He also said that Azerbaijan is capable of importing 150 megawatts of electrical energy from Iran.
