Inflation rate in Azerbaijan to be one-digit as Government forecasted

26 September 2006 [15:03] - TODAY.AZ
One-digit inflation rate forecasted by the Government will remain effective by this year's end.

Economic Development Minister Heydar Babayev said the same is forecasted for next year as well, APA reports.

"The aim is to maintain stability of the economic growth. Increase of the price speeds up inflation. World market prices affect prices in Azerbaijan. We monitor the situation in order to take measures against inflation," he said.

He said the Azerbaijani manat is strengthening against the US dollar and this case is normal.

"The strengthening of Azerbaijani manat doesn't negatively affect production but export production. We think that this rise should be minimized. But, rise of the manat is unavoidable because of mass capital flows to Azerbaijan. This flow is natural and can be considered one of measures against inflation."
