Ministry of Ecology not to agree with report by Yale and California Universities

02 February 2006 [16:13] - TODAY.AZ
Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan does not agree with the reports made by the Yale and the California Universities.

To this end, a roundtable has been held yesterday at the Ecology Ministry chaired by the Huseyn Bagirov involving various non-governmental organizations, Trend reports.

In the reports reflecting the ecological performance indices for 2006 and ecological achievements for 2005 throughout the world Azerbaijan was on the 99-th place among 146 states.

The meeting noted while preparing reports no relevant data has been received by Americans from any state bodies. Thus, the reports have been prepared without any methodology needed for collecting such data.

"In the list Azerbaijan is included into the group of arid regions along with Nigeria, Chad and other African states. It is not based and proves once again that quite other interests were taken into account while preparing the report, but not the unbiased data, which might have been received. The same is with the sustainable energy supply, where Azerbaijan is on the 128-th place," the Minister noted.

At the result Bagirov stressed, till now 2 addresses to the US researches have been made on behalf of the Ministry of Ecology, to which no responses have been received. "We will send again the written appeal to the Universities aimed at clarifying the situation," the Minister noted.
