Famous Cape Verdean singer delights Baku audience

Famous Cape Verdean singer and multi-instrumentalist Miroca Paris performed for the first time in Baku.

Rotunda hall hosted the concert of singer on November 1, Trend Life reported.

The concert was held as part of Fantazia Festival, organized in the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage. 

Addressing the event, Denis Daniilidis, the first adviser to the EU representation in Azerbaijan, noted that 2018 is declared the Year of Cultural Heritage in Europe and is held under the slogan "Our heritage: where the past meets the future".

During this year, projects devoted to a diverse cultural heritage, both at the level of the European Union and at the national, regional and local levels are organized.

The aim of the European Year of Cultural Heritage is to encourage more people to discover and engage with Europe's cultural heritage, and to reinforce a sense of belonging to a common European space.

The festival received its name from the architectural landmark of Baku - the Fantazia bathhouse, which was built at the end of the 19th century, and closely intertwined Eastern and European traditions.

The event is organized by the European Union Office in Azerbaijan in cooperation with the embassies of Germany, France, Greece, Poland, Croatia, the Netherlands and Hungary, with the participation of diplomatic missions of Mexico, Moldova and Morocco and the support of United Cultures.

Then, guests enjoyed a fascinating performance of Miroca Paris.

Creole instrumentalists from the Cesaria Évora Orchestra - Weiss Dias, Paulo di Figueiredo, Moises Ramos, Cau Parish and a young Cabo-rd singer, Vilma Vieira, came on stage with the musician.

Beautiful melodies, unexpected duets and amazing jam session could not leave anyone indifferent.

Miroca Paris, known for working 11 years with the late Cesaria Evora, famous as "Barefoot Diva", toured the world as her percussionist. After her passing, Paris furthered his career and excelled playing alongside renowned international artists.

Drawing on his vast rhythmic knowledge, Paris has been composing on guitar, the first instrument he mastered, while growing up in the Cape Verde Islands and created his own unique technique. Miroca Paris was influenced by Portuguese, Cuban, Brazilian and African music.

Now, Miroca Paris shares his own heartfelt music and stories with his unique rhythmic style, which he has developed over the years.

Among his other successful works, Miroca Paris's D'ALMA album was released 1 November 2017 and quickly picked up by radio stations in Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Greece, Holland, Poland, U.S., Russia and more.

Miroca Paris is 13 in the European World Music Charts and Top 40 Transglobal Charts.
