Azerbaijan Union of Cinematographers established

The Union of Cinematographers of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established at the event held in Nizami Cinema Center in Baku yesterday.

The Union’s initiative group and board consist of Shafiga Mammadova, Eldar Guliyev, Ayaz Salayev, Jamil Guliyev, Vagif Mustafayev, Ogtay Mirgasimov, Ramiz Fataliyev, Mais Aghabeyov, Yusif Guliyev, Siyavush Karimi, director of Azerbaijanfilm studio Mushfig Hatamov, director of Narimanfilm Nariman Mammadov.

Addressing the event, Jamil Guliyev said that the directions of the Cinematographers Union’s activity is promotion of the national films in the international arena, production of national films, organization of international symposiums and conferences, formation of cinematography’s infrastructure.

Azerbaijani People’s Artist Shafiga Mammadova said that today one of the main problems of the Azerbaijani cinematography is non-formation of young generation. “The development of young generation in the democratic, healthy and cultural atmosphere is very significant. We have to bring it to cinematography and conduct educational work.”

Film director Ogtay Mirgasimov participating in the discussions spoke about current situation in Azerbaijani cinematography and also mentioned that the development of this sphere doesn’t depend on one person: “One person is nothing in cinema because this is the result of collective work. I came to cinema at 16 and became experienced. I was pleased by every step made towards the development of cinematography. I am happy that this organization is established. We lost a lot during past years because our unity was only in words. I hope that it will be substituted with actions. I have been thinking about it more than 5 years and shared a lot of ideas dealing with this question”. O. Mirgasimov also regretfully mentioned the loss of the customs and traditions of cinematography and connected it with the modern technological problems: “Of course, there are misfortunes in other spheres. I understand that our people and directory were waiting real work from us during this period. I again return to my previous thought – Unity! Only unity can solve any problem”.

Film director Ayaz Salayev noted that figures of cinematography is actually valuable people for the society: “We produce film from nothing. Film is a product to sell and also to promote the culture. We are stepping towards the future. It is possible and necessary to step the future with films. The other important issue is values. Establishment of such union of the film community was important for creation and development of necessary values. Though there are creative people, it is needed to creative family.”

Mushfig Hatamov spoke about modern sound recording in the Azerbaijani film and make-up problems.

Film director Vagif Mustafayev underlined the unsatisfactory activity of Azerbaijani Cinematographers Union which was led by Rustam Ibrahimbayov: “Now the existed the activity of Azerbaijani Cinematographers Union is unsatisfactory. It needs to analyze and promote the national films and create film environment. Educating film is also important issue.”

The establishment of Cinematographers Union of the Azerbaijani Republic was announced after discussions and People’s Artist Shafiga Mammadova was elected chairperson of the union. Jamil Guliyev was elected the executive secretary of the Union.
