Compulsory health insurance (CHI), which cannot be implemented by Azerbaijan since 1995, becomes the subject of international claims to the country.
Today in Baku at a media conference devoted to the results of his mission to Azerbaijan, Anand Grover, UN Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, has said that the UN urges the Government of Azerbaijan to bring to the forefront the solution to the matter of mandatory health insurance.
"Despite the fact that in 1999 the government decided to introduce CHI, implementation of the relevant program was halted at early stage, and none of the government officials could answer my question regarding the implementation of the Law on Mandatory Health Insurance. This program can effectively address the issue of public health, but it has not been defined yet how the program will be financed, what services will cover the basic insurance package. Without defining these nuances it is impossible to assess provision of sustainable funding programs on the right for health," Mr. Grover said./abc.az/
