Azerbaijan, Japan boost agrarian coop

A ceremony for delivery of the agricultural equipment took place in Azerbaijan`s Shirvan city within the Project for Underprivileged Farmers (2KR) of the Japan`s Official Development Assistance Program (ODA).

The event brought together Japan`s ambassador to Azerbaijan Shushuke Watanabe, employees from the Ministry of Agriculture, Agroleasing Company, farmers and entrepreneurs.

The Minister of Agriculture Ismat Abbasov said relations of friendship between Azerbaijan and Japan were laid during national leader Heydar Aliyev`s official visit to this country in 1998. Minister said during 1998-2011, 863 units of agricultural production were delivered to Azerbaijan within the ODA.

 Last year, the government of Japan allocated grant worth 260 million yen to the Ministry of Agriculture and bought 29 combine harvesters, said minister. Mr. Abbasov expressed his gratitude to the government of Japan for assistance in developing of the agrarian sector in Azerbaijan.

Ambassador Watanabe thanked President Ilham Aliyev for aid to Japanese people suffered from the earthquake. Ambassador said the government of Japan will further do the best to boost agrarian cooperation with Azerbaijan.
