Opening ceremony of the 3rd Youth Olympic Games started in Buenos Aires. For the first opening ceremony in the history of the Olympic Movement was held outside a stadium and open to the public for free at a one of the central streets of Buenos Aires. The ceremony involved one of the biggest logistical endeavors in Argentina’s history. Some 2000 people watched the opening ceremony under the artistic direction of the Fuerza Bruta theatre group.


The opening ceremony of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held at the Obelisco de Buenos Aires on October 6, 2018 at 8 PM.


The whole Olympic family, led by the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, was present at the opening ceremony.

Azerbaijani boxer Nurlan Safarov carried the country’s national flag at the Opening Ceremony of 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.


The 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games, officially known as the III Summer Youth Olympic Games, and commonly known as Buenos Aires 2018, is an international sports, cultural, and educational event being hosted in Buenos Aires, Argentina between 6 and 18 October 2018. It is the first Summer Youth Olympic Games to be held outside of Asia (also first in the Southern and Western Hemispheres), and the first Youth Games for either summer or winter to be held outside Eurasia.


Along with the officials, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan Chingiz Huseynzade, deputy chairman of the National Olympic Committee Azer Aliyev, Vice-President of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rafiga Huseynzade, Olympic champion Farid Mansurov watched the Games.
