Azerbaijani athlete Ramil Guliyev, currently representing Turkey, became the World Champion.

Guliyev brilliantly performed at the World Cup finals in London, the UK.

The 27-year-old sprinter, who finished last when Bolt won the 200 at the 2016 Olympics, crossed the line in 20.09 seconds, Trend reported.

Ramil Guliyev, who represents the Turkish national team since 2011, has won the world crown for the first time in his career.

The Azerbaijani athlete competed with eight men lined up for the final of the 200 meters, trying to become the first sprinter.

Among them was Isaac Makwala, Wayde van Niekerk, the South African who has a 400-meter title under his belt from earlier in the week and certainly possesses the running credentials to be touted as the next great sprint champion.

Moments after the win, Guliyev was on the phone with Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Hours later, he was still wearing the Turkish flag around his shoulders.

"I was competing against some of the best athletes in the world, so it didn't bother me that the attention was on them," Guliyev said. "Maybe at the next competition, everyone will look at me instead", he said.

Wayde van Niekerk, with a result of 20.11 seconds claimed silver while Jereem Richards of Trinidad and Tobago took bronze.
