Germany are reaping the rewards of their successful World Cup campaign and have gone top of the Fifa Rankings for the first time in around 20 years.

The final against Argentina was not just about the world title, but also a battle for top spot in the world rankings, with Joachim Low's men emerging victorious on both counts.

The South Americans have moved from fifth place to second following the 1-0 loss against Germany, with Netherlands occupying the final podium spot after their third-place finish at the World Cup.

Reigning European champions Spain, meanwhile, have dropped from first to eighth place following their disappointing campaign in Brazil.

Colombia (fourth), Belgium (fifth), Uruguay (sixth), Brazil (seventh), Switzerland (ninth) and France (10th) complete the top 10.

USA remain the best-placed Concacaf team in 15th, just one place ahead of surprise quarter-finalists Costa Rica.

Algeria are Africa's top representative in 24th, with Cote d'Ivoire sitting in 25th and Nigeria the 34rd-placed team (climbing 10 places).

Despite their disappointing performances in Brazil, 45th-placed Japan remain Asia's top side in the world rankings.
