Barcelona are committed to signing Higuaín, but it doesn't look like it'll be a walk in the park to bring him to the Camp Nou. The Catalan club has recently contacted Napoli with a firm offer of €55 million, but the Italians were not impressed.

Napoli don't want to see their star player go and so have put a scandalous price tag on him - €70 million. It is far from likely that Barcelona will pay as much for the Argentine, although he is exactly what Luis Enrique is after and also has the nod from Messi.

After Manchester City's refusal to sell Agüero and Dortmund's insistence to keep hold of Marco Reus, Barcelona then turned their eyes on Higuaín, a player that knows la Liga well, having played at Real for six years, and he also gets on very well with Messi.

The deal, however, is way over budget for Barça. Moreover, Napoli are drawing up a new and improved contract for the player. When he gets back from Brazil, he will be welcomed with a half million-euro pay rise (presently, he earns €5m a season).

Higuaín arrived at Napoli last summer and has scored 24 times from 46 matches. Perhaps all is not lost for Barça. A lot depends on the pressure the player is willing to put on the Italians to let him leave.
