19 June 2014 [14:50] - Today.Az

Between 150 and 200 Chile fans stormed the media centre at the Maracana in an attempt to access the stands inside the stadium without tickets. The area of the stadium from where the media are covering the Brazil World Cup was broken into and FIFA's security staff were completely overrun.

The fans, who were wearing Chile shirts, got past the security checkpoint before the entrance to the press room, breaking several windows and plant pots at the entrance.

Many of them managed to get into the Maracana stadium by tearing though some of the canvasses that act as the walls of the media centre. The Chile fans broke TVs, tables, stole press material and even took food from the journalists' canteen. A group of about 50 people were arrested and taken to local police stations.

Almost an hour before kick-off, another group of 40 people without tickets used one of doors to the pitch to gain access to the stands at the Maracana and some ten people managed to avoid stewards and were able to watch the Spain vs. Chile game.

FIFA's security measures for this game were abysmal and there were real moments of tension during the break-in and sacking of the Maracana's media centre.
