Manchester United's season has gone from bad to worse, with the Red Devils beaten by Olympiacos in the first leg of their last 16 Champions League tie at Piraeus in Greece.
United had been just one of three teams coming into the knockout stages not to have lost thus far in this season's competition but goals from veteran Alejandro Dominguez and a stunning curling effort by Costa Rican Joel Campbell —on loan from Arsenal— ended that record.
United can take heart ahead of next month's second leg that they have won 13 of their last 15 home games in the knockout stages of the competition although their last defeat was at this stage last year to Real Madrid.
Borussia Dortmund got back on track with a 4-2 victory away to Zenit St Petersburg in the first leg of their last-16 clash in the Champions League.
Dortmund raced into a 2-0 lead after only five minutes as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, then Marco Reus scored to leave the Russians reeling.
The hosts pulled two goals back after the break as central midfielder Oleg Shatov scored, then Brazil's Hulk converted a penalty.
On both occasions Dortmund gave the perfect response as Lewandowski scored just seconds later as the Germans take a commanding lead home for the second leg on March 19.
Having lost 3-0 to Hamburg on Saturday, the Champions League is now Dortmund's best chance of silverware.
Robert Lewandowski has been involved in seven goals in his last six Champions League appearances (5 goals, 2 assists).
