After a fantastic 2013 in which they were crowned champions of the North American Soccer League (NASL), the New York Cosmos have turned their attentions to 2014.

Cosmos coach Giovanni Savarese has revealed his desire to capture a superstar name in the shape of Raúl González Blanco. Savarese wants the former Real Madrid man to team up with fellow 'La Liga' old boy Marcos Senna, whose goal sealed the Soccer Bowl trophy last month.

Savarese was gushing in his praise for the Spanish forward, who currently plies his trade at Qatari club Al Sadd. "If you told me I could sign a forward now, I would love to bring in Raúl, because of what he represents as a person – with his professionalism, commitment and ability. He's exactly the type of person we want at the club", the Venezuelan stated.

The Cosmos have made no official comment on the possibility of signing the 36-year-old, but the fact that their coach has spoken so openly about such a big-name player has certainly set tongues wagging. The New York club kicks off the new season in February.
