As many as 216,000 out of 400,000 internally displaced persons have settled in Baku, Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov told media.

This year the State Oil Fund provided 80 million manat to improve living conditions of IDPs. However, these funds are expected to be increased up to 100 million manat through additional funds.

Hasanov said that the state program provides for resettlement of internally displaced persons from summer camps, boarding houses, sanatoria, kindergartens, and this process is carried out gradually.

"Tent camps are a priority because of unbearable living conditions in them, so they were eliminated as a first step. IDPs’ residing in military units is also unacceptable. IDPs are living in Finnish-style towns, exploitation period of which is 5-6 years, for already 17-18 years. In the second stage, IDPs will be resettled from school buildings. The president has also decreed to resettle IDPS from dormitories. This process is also carried out gradually.”

He also rejected reports that internally displaced persons will be resettled from dormitories this year.
