President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the UNESCO Good Will Ambassador, the first lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva has been conferred the honorable award “The Woman of the Year”.

On 18 July a grand ceremony of delivering the award, established by the public association “Women-leaders” took place in the Baku Yacht club with participation of the international organizations and diplomatic missions in Azerbaijan, public and political figures and representatives of the country’s culture and the art”, Trend reports.

The chairwoman of the Public association, the deputy of the Parliament, Malahat Hassanova told the ceremony participants, that the honorable title “The woman of the year” is conferred to Aliyeva according to the poll among 1500 respondents on the results of 2004.

The honorable title “The woman of the year” has been awarded for the invaluable contribution in the development of the Azerbaijani culture and art, preserving and development of the non-material heritage of Azerbaijan, the active role in the country’s socio-political life, implementation of the humanitarian projects, aimed at the improvement of the social conditions of children, refugees and IDPs, charitable initiatives, Hassanova underscored.

The Italian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Margarita Costa, the UNO resident-coordinator Marco Barsotti, the UNESCO representative in Azerbaijan Hana Singer addressing the ceremony noted the invaluable work and contribution of the first lady of Azerbaijan in preserving, development and delivering the Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage to the world.

Having thanked for the confidence Mehriban Aliyeva noted, that along with the success there are problems in the society, solution of which depends not only on the state but the citizen themselves. She urged everybody to facilitate in solving these problems. «My attitude to each problem under the control is a high responsibility. And in my activities I rest on the three basic principles: patriotism, humanity, compassion”, Aliyeva said.
