New Jersey The Azerbaijan Society of America, which has been serving the Azerbaijani-American community for 48 years, declared today that the venerable, long established organization has no connection, affiliation or common interest with an upstart Brooklyn, NY club using a very similar name.

APA has been informed about by the Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA).

"We feel the goals of this month-old club are unclear and, in fact, that their name may constitute an infringement of our trademark in the name Azerbaijan Society of America," said Tomris Azeri, President of the ASA.  "It is very important for us to uphold the reputation of the organization founded in 1957 by our grandfathers.  It is an organization which has supported and rallied the Azerbaijan-American community for decades.  As always, we will continue to protect the integrity, name and reputation of the Azerbaijan Society of America," she said.

The Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA), established in 1957 in New Jersey, USA, is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing knowledge about Azerbaijan, the Azeri people, their culture and history as well as promoting ties in economic, cultural, and scientific spheres between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United States.

The ASA works with various organizations, associations, ethnic and religious groups to enhance intercultural understanding and to promote peace in the Caucasus.
