The nature protection should be one among the main concerns of every state in the world, as the well-being of a country and its population starts from a favorable environment. The nature conservation issue is always on the agenda of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and recently, three poachers have been detained and fined in the country.

The staff of the ministry conducted a raid on October 20 to study the situation with observance of requirements of the laws ‘On hunting and On wildlife’, and to prevent cases of illegal hunting of wild birds and animals.

During the raid, a resident of the country’s Jalilabad region Agil Abdullayev, resident of Shabran region Sadig Gamzayev and the UAE citizen Suleiman Mohammad Hassan Fakher were detained for illegal hunting in the Shabran region in the coastal zone of the Caspian sea. The staff of the Ministry discovered and seized prohibited hunting instruments, such as doubles and nets for catching falcons, as well as 10 pigeons.

The ministry staff drew up administrative protocols in accordance with legislation against the violators. Based on the relevant article of the Code on Administrative Offenses, each of them was fined 1,000 manats ($589), the prohibited hunting tools were destroyed, and the doves were released.

Azerbaijan that locates in nine of eleven possible climatic zones enjoys a great diversity of flora and fauna, and is kind of a heaven for hunters. Here, in the different periods of the year, hunters can hunt for Dagestan wild ox, wild pig, hare, wood pigeons, quail, partridge, waterfowl, sandpiper, woodcock, and chamois. The hunting season in the country opens traditionally in late May-June.

However, the country prohibits hunting in some areas of the country as well as the Caspian Sea islands, green zones, protected areas, near the cities and resort areas.

In order not to be among the violators, hunting enthusiasts should apply to the Baku Ecology and Natural Resources Department and the Ecology and Natural Resources Departments to acquire a hunting permit.

Foreigners can receive a permission to hunt on the territory of Azerbaijan by the decision approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in 2004 and the law ‘On hunting’.
