A corner of Azerbaijan's embassy in Jordan was decorated by Kalagayis impressing the visitors.

Meanwhile, a booth representing the history and other important symbols of Shaki Kalagayis and silk art was set up at the foyer of the office building of the embassy.

Being one of the symbols of Azerbaijan culture, Kalagayi (kerchiefs) drew the visitors' attention with its national ornaments and elegancy.

Promoting this beautiful heritage of Azerbaijan is one of the main priorities of Azerbaijan's embassy in Jordan. During his meetings with Jordan's King family members, state members, as well as its diplomatic missions, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Jordan, Sabir Agabayov provides them with information about Kalagayis and silk art. He also presents them Kalagayis as a gift.

Diplomatic representatives of Azerbaijan accredited abroad are putting many efforts into including Azerbaijani Kalagayis and silk art in UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.

Kalagayi, made from fine and soft silk has been an integral part of women's national costume in Azerbaijan. Silk Kalagayi protects them from both the hot sun and the cold wind because silk is cool in summer and warm in winter.

Kalagayi was originally made in Basqal, a picturesque place in the northern-central part of Azerbaijan. It was exported to India, Central Asia, Russia, Italy, France and other countries being highly appreciated there. Basqal masters bought silk from Sheki, Gabala, Ordubad, Kutaisi and Samarkand.
