Even in January you can feel that the weather is changing sharply for the worse in Azerbaijan. No wonder, because forecasters promised snow in the last day of January. The situation will not change for the better until mid-February, according to the forecasters. By the end of February there will be significant temperature fluctuations.

Azerbaijan's National Hydrometeorology Department of Azerbaijan's Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry has warned the nation to prepare themselves for the coming cold days in February. In a report the department said that an abnormal cold is expected in the country and the average temperature will be below climatic norm.

The average temperature in Baku and the Absheron peninsula, according to the National Hydrometeorology Department, will be 1-4 degrees above zero, which is below the norm.

The situation in other Azerbaijan's regions is slightly different. Thus, Azerbaijan's coldest districts as always will be Sheki, Oguz, Shamakha, Gazakh, Ganja, Goranboy, Khizi, Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, as well as Khankandi, Shusha, Khojali, Lachin, and Zangilan of the Upper Karabakh region. Here the average temperature will be 0 - 5 degrees below zero. At night the degree is expected 8-13 degrees below zero. In highlands the weather is colder: 20-25 degrees below zero.

Mingachevir, Yevlakh, Goychay, Agdash, Kurdamir, Imishli, Agjabadi, Beylagan, Sabirabad, Bilasuvar, Saatli, Shirvan, Hajigabul, Salyan, and Neftchala, as well as in Masalli, Yardimli, Lerik and Astara and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic would be relatively warm. Thus, February won't be cold here - the average temperature will be 1-4 degrees above zero, as well as in Azerbaijan's capital.

"In connection with the predicted frosty and snowy weather, Baku traffic police will work in emergency mode," Baku State Traffic Police department head Vagif Asadov said.

"Traffic police addresses drivers to pay attention to the tire pressure, replace them to the seasonal ones and if necessary use the chain," he said. "We ask drivers to break using engine and to use dipped beam. Drivers should be especially careful on the slopes and climbs, not to move at a high speed, and generally try not to use the personal, but public transport," he added.

Referring to pedestrians, the head of the department once again reminded them not to cross the road in the wrong places and use crosswalks.

We, in turn, ask our readers to dress warmly, and to avoid walking in cold weather.
