Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes has signed a law on twinning of Baku and Rio de Janeiro cities, which was adopted on November 6 by the Foreign Relations Committee of Rio de Janeiro
City Council. The law came into force on Thursday.

The law says the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku and the second largest city of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro have in common a lot. Both cities regularly host cultural events. According to the law, there is dynamic life style, rich history, grandiose architecture and love for sports in Baku.

The law goes on to say Baku and Rio de Janeiro are known as cultural heritage centres of the world and are visited by thousands of tourists every year.

Baku`s nominating its candidacy as a host city for future important international events will give an impetus to development of dialogue and exchange of experience between the two cities.
