The "Open Shelf" project has been presented in Azerbaijan with the support of the Youth Foundation under the President of Azerbaijan, the Foundation's press service told Trend news agency.

The joint project of the Youth Foundation, the Azerbaijan Student Network and the Baku office of the Global Shapers Community of the World Economic Forum aims to increase the promotion of books and ensure their preservation as well as to communicate their message to future generations.

The purpose of the project is to draw attention of the youth to literature, increase public interest in reading books and inform foreign nationals about Azerbaijan through books. According to the principles of the "Open Shelf", people are expected to either return a book or bring another one to replace it.

The opening ceremony of the first "Open Shelf" took place June 14 in Icherisheher, one
of the world`s cultural heritage sites located in the center of Baku.

Speaking at the ceremony, Executive Director of the Youth Foundation Farhad Hajiyev told the audience in detail about the project.

According to him, presentation of the "Open Shelf" on the eve of National Salvation Day (June 15) once again emphasizes the essential contribution made by national leader Heydar Aliyev to the education and development of young people.

Speakers at the event congratulated the youth over the opening of the "Open Shelf".
