Turkey's foreign minister, who had visited Tehran earlier this week, has held a meeting with a top US diplomat to discuss Iran's nuclear program.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutolu met US Under-Secretary of State William Burns in Ankara on Thursday to discuss the results of his talks with the top Iranian officials.
"Davutoglu told Burns that he got the impression that Iran was willing to maintain negotiation," Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Burak Ozugergin was quoted by Anadolu news agency as saying.
"He asked the US to insist on finding a solution through diplomatic channels," the spokesperson added.
Ozugergin stated that Turkey aimed at contributing to the peace and stability in the region by helping parties to understand attitudes of each other as well as recommending possible consensus points to the parties.
After his talks with Burns, Davutoglu also held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Anadolu news agency reported.
Davutoglu in his visit to Tehran on Tuesday held talks with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili.
