Yildirim said that Turkey rose to 5th from 23rd place in purchase order of world ship construction.

Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said on Tuesday that Turkey rose to 5th from 23rd place in purchase order of world ship construction.

Turkey has become a trademark in yacht and coaster construction, added Yildirim who spoke in a ceremony at Tuzla Shipyards Zone.

Noting that more than 30,000 materials were used in a ship's construction, Yildirim said that construction of a ship provided continuation of employment as well as development of other sectors.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, who also attended the ceremony, said that they held a meeting on problems of maritime sector today, adding that maritime sector was a strategic sector for Turkey. He noted that there was a financing problem in this sector, and the government was working on elimination of those problems.
