One of the protest action participants was killed in Istanbul, the Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported on May 22.

Police opened fire to disperse the protesters and one of the rubber bullets hit the head of the protest action participant.

Some 20 people staged a protest in Istanbul on May 22 over the death of miners in the province of Manisa.

The protesters burned several vehicles, including police cars.

Some 301 people were killed and 486 people were injured as a result of the mine explosion in Soma city, the Turkish province of Manisa.
