20 May 2014 [09:45] - Today.Az

Turkey closed its consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, the Turkish news agency Anadolu reported on May 20, due to the unstable situation in the city.

Libya has been plunged into numerous internecine conflicts with the participation of representatives of the various tribes after the uprising in 2011 and the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, who ruled the country for 40 years. The armed groups are operating throughout Libya. They have an absolute impact on the local population, impose their own laws and control the key facilities in some regions.

It is reported that the consulate will resume its activity in the coming weeks.

The embassies of Saudi Arabia and Algeria also temporarily suspended their activity in Libya.
