Turkey will produce the first domestic passenger plane by 2023, the country's Finance Minister Mehmet Shimshek said, Turkish Sabah newspaper reported on Feb.18.

Currently, preparatory works for the production of the plane are underway in the country, according to the minister.

Earlier, Shimshek said that Turkey intends to establish the production of a domestic medium-range passenger plane.

In 2012, Turkish Cabinet of Ministers approved the preliminary project for creation of the first passenger plane with up to 120 seats.

Currently, Turkey's aircraft fleet consists of planes produced by Boeing and Airbus companies.
