The UN human rights office has suspended counting the victims of the Syrian conflict because UN officials do not have adequate access to zones of conflict to verify numbers, a spokeswoman said Tuesday, dpa reported.

The office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said in July that there were more than 100,000 casualties, counting only victims whose name and place and date of death could be verified.

The pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has put the toll at more than 130,000 people.
