Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych demanded an independent investigation into allegations of police violence during the break-up of a pro-EU rally earlier Saturday, as well as punishment for anyone found guilty, dpa reported.
"I condemn the actions that led to violent confrontation and injuries," the president's office said in a statement.
