Hungarian Public Broadcaster "Duna TV" showed a program devoted to Azerbaijan's national holiday, Day of the Republic.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Hungary Vilayat Guliyev took part in the program as a guest and spoke about how the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic existed in 1918-1920 and its hard and difficult path, the Azerbaijani embassy in Hungary said.
Starting in the mid-19th century, Azerbaijan became the center of social and political ideas of the Islamic world, the cradle of European culture and ideological trends in the Middle East with the first theater, first newspaper and modern schools. As a result, the first eastern Democratic Republic was established in Azerbaijan, he said.
Guliyev revealed information about two years of activities conducted by the Azerbaijani Parliament: army building and the creation of socio-political institutions such as education and the national language.
Guliyev said Azerbaijan is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the restoration of independence in 2011.
During the program, Guliyev also spoke about preparations for an important European cultural festival "Eurovision", which will be held in Azerbaijan in 2012. He explained that the country has already created a steering committee led by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
He expressed hope that Azerbaijan will continue this year's victory as a hospitable host.
