The Azerbaijani State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking will appeal to the UN with a request to amend published by the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), Deputy Prime Minister and State Commission Chairman Ali Hasanov said.
"Unfortunately, the CND in its report addresses issues related to Armenia and Azerbaijan through the prism of double standards. The report noted that Armenia fulfills the three UN conventions at a high level, but Azerbaijan is shown in the report as a transit country," Hasanov said.
He said the report does not mention the fact that Armenia is growing drugs in the occupied Azerbaijani territories and receives huge profits from the drug sale.
"The State Commission will express its attitude to this report. It will assess the part of the report relating to Armenia and Azerbaijan, as biased and would insist on changes in this part of the report," Hasanov said.
Chief of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration's Law Enforcement Agencies Work Department Fuad Alasgarov protest should be expressed in connection with the CND’s report it should be noted that Azerbaijan is not a transit country. There are attempts to use Azerbaijan as a transit country, but these attempts are successfully intercepted.
"If drugs are available in all countries, then all countries can be used for transit. There are attempts to use Azerbaijan’s territory for this," he said." About 2.5 tons of narcotics a year is seized from illegal trafficking in this regard."
He said important operations were carried out jointly with the Russian Federation and identified hundreds of persons who are members of international drug trafficking.
The State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking held today a meeting devoted to the activities in 2010.
