An international legal assessment still has not been given to Khojaly
genocide, decisive actions have not been taken against the acts of
terror, Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova said at a commemoration
ceremony in the Office of the Commissioner on Human Rights dedicated to
the 19th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. According to her, at a time when the progressive humankind, peoples are
eager for peace, prosperity and development, the Armenian government
pursues the policies of ethnic cleansing, terror and violence that
affects the peace and stabilization processes in the South Caucasus and
entire Europe.
"The genocide in Khojaly, which resulted in rough and massive
violations of human rights, have not yet found its legal assessment on
an international scale, decisive actions have not been taken against the
acts of terror, which causes feelings of anger and regret," said the
Ombudsman. According to her, the efforts of the international organizations on the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement should be made without double
standards, in accordance with the norms and principles of international
law. Plenipotentiary international agencies should impose sanctions
against Armenia. This occupier state must give up its territorial claims
and fulfill the provisions of international documents adopted in
connection with the conflict. The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan
must be restored fully, the Azerbaijani refugees and internally
displaced people must returned to their native lands, prisoners and
hostages must be freed. The Ombudsman urged the authoritative international organizations to
impose sanctions against aggressor Armenia, who committed the Khojaly
genocide. According to the Ombudsman, the world community should support
the fair actions of the Azerbaijani people.
