Azerbaijan might "seriously consider" the prospects of its further participation in the negotiation process on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement in the format "Prague process".

This will be done if Armenia delays or gives a negative response to proposals made by the OSCE Minsk Group on the basis of "Madrid principles", Azerbaijani ambassador to Ukraine Eynulla Madatli said Wednesday in Kiev during the conference: "International legal mechanisms to resolve regional conflicts".

The diplomat recalled that since May 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been conducting "still unsuccessful" peace talks under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chaired by Russia, France and the USA. In recent years, the dialogue has continued under the so-called "Prague process" on the basis of "Madrid principles". Exactly, these principles have become grounds for renewed proposals of the Minsk Group co-chairs, made in 2009.

Madatli said that "in general, Azerbaijan has accepted these updated proposals, but unfortunately, Armenia still has not expressed its official position." "If the Armenian side continues the tactics of delay or officially gives a negative response to the proposals, Azerbaijan, of course, will be forced to think seriously about the prospects for its participation in these negotiations," said the head of Azerbaijani diplomatic mission. He added that Baku is considering "various options" and will seek to restore the territorial integrity of the country by "any means", Ukrinform reported.

Madatli explained that Azerbaijan's position is open and clear, and the scope of possible compromises has been determined. "They allow to observe the fundamental principle of international law - the inviolability of borders of sovereign states with the realization of the right of peoples to self-determination within internationally recognized borders of states," said the Azerbaijani ambassador.

He is convinced that the principles of international law and decisions of international organizations are the only correct solution to the problem. "

The ambassador stressed that the South Caucasus plays a key role in the stability of the region. "And we would like the peace to reign here. And all three countries - Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia - live in good neighborly relations," said Madatli.
