On Thursday, Chairman of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament) Ogtay Asadov met with a delegation of the State Duma and Federation Council of the Russian Federation, which is here to attend a “roundtable” on the role of parliament in development of civil society.
Asadov praised all-round relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, adding “meetings of the heads of states played an important role in development of these relations”.
He said Russia is a strategic partner of Azerbaijan. Asadov expressed hope turnover between the two countries would reach $2 billion in 2010.
He also hailed interparliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia.
Chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Law and State Building of Russia Vladimir Pligin praised Azerbaijan's rapid development. Pligin expressed confidence that upcoming parliamentary elections would be as democratic, transparent and free as previous ones were.
