Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan signed a cooperation agreement on civil defense, emergency warning and elimination of the results of emergency situations.

Ministers of emergency situations of both countries Vladimir Bozhko and Kemaleddin Heydarov met in Astana on October 6. Following the meeting, the ministers signed the agreement. The document covers the issues of civil defense, emergency warning and elimination of the results of emergency situations, as well as voluntary and mutual assistance during the natural disasters and accidents and training of civil defense experts.

The ministries are also planning to sign a comprehensive cooperation plan for 2011-2012. Bozhko and Heydarov discussed establishing of joint enterprises in the field of scientific-technical cooperation, organizing joint conferences and workshops on emergency situations, founding data bank about the possible emergency situations in water facilities and nearby territories, joint quick reactions to the incidents like oil pollution on the Caspian Sea and coastal areas and other accidents.

Press service of the Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said: “The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan is interested in strengthening cooperation with the Azerbaijani colleagues for implementation of new technologies in rescue operations during the emergency situations, including fire security, use of weapons of mass destruction, development of monitoring and warning systems, natural and technogenic research, civil defense system, cooperation and humanitarian measures for reducing risks of trans-frontier emergency situations”.
