Chairman of Azerbaijan-Bulgarian Interparliamentary Friendship Group Ali Huseynov and Azeri Ambassador to Bulgaria Elman Zeynalov participated in a conference “EU`s Eastern policy- new opportunities, new commitments” in Bulgarian capital Sofia.
The event brought together MPs, Chairman of the Euronest delegation Christian Vigenin and reporter on EU Strategy for the South Caucasus Yevgeny Kirilov, representatives of the European Parliament and European Commission, EU Program “Eastern Partnership” member states, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Romania, Ukraine, Armenia, ambassadors of these countries, scientists and media outlets.
The conference saw discussions on cooperation of the EU and the eastern neighbors, prospects and purposes of the “Eastern partnership” program, future activity and structure of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
Mr. Kirilov delivered report on the “EU Strategy for the South Caucasus”. On EU`s efforts in resolution of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, the reporter said unfortunately OSCE Minsk Group`s activity produced no results.
Representative of Armenia`s National Assembly Vagan Hovkhanesyan protested against Kirilov in connection with a resolution on the need for an EU strategy for the South Caucasus adopted recently by the European Parliament. Mr. Kirilov said the facts and conclusions reflected in his report have been prepared over a long period of time and adopted by majority of votes.
Mr. Kirilov called Armenian delegate to stay calm and not to give away to emotions.
The conference participants delivered reports on the “Black Sea synergy and Black Sea alliance”, “EU Strategy on the Black Sea”.
