The British Air Force published a report from what they ironically referred to as “the rusty Soviet railway along which the Trump TRIPP corridor is supposed to pass.”
In short, they visited the Syunik region of Armenia and documented the remains of the Meghri railway — dismantled tracks, rusty wagons, and crumbling station buildings.
The entire report is laced with ironic skepticism: sure, sure — there will be billions in investments, and this will become the continent’s most important transport corridor. Right.
Readers of this report may walk away with the false impression that the railway simply collapsed on its own. After all, the BBC fails to mention why the Meghri railway fell into ruin. Not a word about the attacks on trains heading to Nakhchivan, not a word about the regional conflict, or how Armenia ended up isolated due to its own aggression. Nothing about why this road has actually been abandoned for over 30 years.
Yes, a lot still needs to be done to launch the corridor. But first, let’s remind the BBC of the standards of journalism. Preaching to others? Start with yourselves.
