Yesterday the opposition attempted to hold a rally in Zagatala however it was scattered by police forces.

The chair of the Zagatala region branch of the Musavat party Saleh Sultanov told that Musavat intended to hold a peaceful demonstration as a sign of protest against falsifications during the elections, however, police did not allow it.

According to the words of S.Sultanov, the Executive Power of the district (EP) appointed a place for the opposition to hold its rally near a clothes factory situated away from the city. The organizers of the action attempted to hold the rally in front of the Cultural House of the district. The police scattered the illegal action and the vice-chair of the Zagatala region branch of the Musavat Party Bayram Shabanov was arrested.

Then the opposition representatives attempted to gather in front of the Central Hospital of the district. However, the police of the region did not allow it, too.

Correspondent of the "Yeni Musavat" newspaper Mustafa Hajili, members of the regional branch of the "Musavat" Fikrat Algayev, Shirin Durmushov, Gasim Jalilov, Firudin Gaziyev and Nazim Zamanov were also arrested.

Police used force against journalists observing the confrontation during the rally. Correspondent of ANS TV channel was marred by the police and deprived of his camera. Police also attempted to take away a camera from APA correspondent.

Three arrested were later released. One of them, the former candidate to the deputy Fikrat Algayev informed that he had been beaten at the police station. However, this information was not confirmed. According to the information given to APA by the Zagatala District Police the rally was scattered because it was illegal. Police did not disclose number of arrested during the rally.
