The Armenian armed forces constantly attack Azerbaijani civilians, including children, women and elders. They want to exert psychological pressure on servicemen and civilians on the frontline, said military expert Rashad Suleymanov.

Suleymanov made the remark while commenting on the Armenian armed forces` recent shelling of Azerbaijani peaceful citizens in Tovuz, which saw 12-yer-old local resident Ramin Yusifov get severe wounds.

Suleymanov noted that nearly 10 Azerbaijani children have been wounded as a result of Armenia’s aggression in the past seven years. “Moreover, in Aghdam, Fuzuli and Tovuz regions, children were killed by Armenian snipers,” Suleymanov noted.

In July 2017, a two-year old Zehra was killed by Armenian armed forces together with her grandmother.  In March 2011, nine-year-old Fariz Badalov was shot in the head by an Armenian sniper while playing in the courtyard in Aghdam region. In July of the same year, 13-year-old Azerbaijani girl Aygun Shahmaliyeva fell victim to Armenia’s inhumane and immoral policy in the Alibayli village. She tragically died as a result of the explosion of a toy with an explosive device, which the Armenian side deliberately dropped into the river flowing to the village.

Overall, 193 Azerbaijani children were killed during the Nagorno-Karabakh war, while the number of injured children is hundreds. 61 children went missing, 27 are still in Armenian captivity.

The expert added that the Azerbaijani army has never attacked or opened fire on peaceful citizens. “Two years ago the Armenians who lived in Talish and Madagiz villages of the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh admitted in their talks with foreign media that if the Azerbaijani servicemen wanted, they could shoot them. But they don’t. The Armenians themselves acknowledge humanity of the Azerbaijani troops,” Suleymanov stressed.

Azerbaijani MP Aydin Huseynov, commenting on the firing of Azerbaijani civilians, said that is a consequence of impunity of Armenia.

He told Trend that Armenia’s firing of the civilian population of Azerbaijan has become a common phenomenon.

“The Garalar village of Tovuz region and civilians living in other territories bordering with Armenia or on the frontline are systematically subject to attacks by the aggressor country,” Huseynov said. The main reason for these provocations by Armenia is the lack of punishment at the international level,” the MP said.

Huseynov added that the criminal regime in Armenia has built its entire policy on enmity against the Azerbaijani people and on the occupation of Azerbaijani lands.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

Azerbaijani MP Sahib Aliyev, in turn, noted that the military junta in Armenia is distinguished by its cruel attitude against children.

“It is surprising and regrettable why the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs are not only tolerant towards the child murderers, but also patronize them?! Why doesn't the world community want to give a real assessment to the child murderers, the aggressive regime and the military junta?!” Aliyev said.

Azerbaijan’s villages in many frontline regions, mainly in Fuzuli, Agdam, Jabrayil, Tartar and others, frequently face shelling and provocations by the Armenian militaries. By committing such provocations, the Armenian side deliberately seeks to cause damage to Azerbaijani people living near the frontline and tries to make their life difficult and risky.
