The Heydar Aliyev Center has launched an exhibition of well-known French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson titled “Paris”. Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva visited the exhibition.
Clément Saccomani, director of the “Magnum photos” agency, thanked Azerbaijani First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s vice president Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva. The director said he was proud that the exhibition was set at the Heydar Aliyev Center, a rare example of architecture.
Saccomani said the exhibition was a tour to Paris’s last 70 years. The exhibition also highlights French-Azerbaijani relations.
He noted the French photographer visited Azerbaijan 40 years ago, “capturing this wonderful land with his camera’. He said the agency also was interested in working with young photographers from the“YARAT!” Contemporary Art Space. “The agency is also looking forward to reaching the world with the moments captured in the first European Games in Baku in 2015.”
More than 80 photos of the late photographer are on display at the exhibition.
The director of the “Magnum photos” agency presented Henri Cartier-Bresson’s photo album to vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.
Cartier-Bresson was born in Chanteloup-en-Brie, Seine-et-Marne, France, in 1908, the oldest of five children.
After unsuccessfully trying to learn music, as a boy Cartier-Bresson was introduced to oil painting by his uncle Louis, a gifted painter.
In the spring of 1947, Cartier-Bresson, with Robert Capa, David Seymour, William Vandivert and George Rodger founded Magnum Photos.
He photographed the most notable events of the 20th century together with many important celebrities including William Faulkner, Henri Matisse, Albert Camus, Truman Capote, Jean-Marie, Marilyn Monroe, Coco Chanel and Jean-Paul Sartre.
Cartier-Bresson died in Montjustin, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France, on August 3, 2004, aged 95.
