Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian visited Moscow on April 19 and held a working meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, news.am website reported.
Foreign ministers of the two countries discussed the process of implementation of the agreements reached by the Armenian and Russian presidents and touched upon the large spectrum of issues on the agenda of relations.
Nalbandian and Lavrov exchanged views on international issues.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. They stressed the importance of settling the conflict only by peaceful means and with the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
