A high-ranking official of Azerbaijani presidential administration has praised the recently held municipal elections in the neighboring Turkey.

"Throughout the night I watched processes around local elections in Turkey. Superb elections... Turkey has made its choice," Novruz Mammadov, the deputy head of the Azerbaijani presidential administration and director of the administration's Foreign Relations Department tweeted on March 31.

The municipal elections in Turkey were held on Sunday, March 30. Some 26 political parties took part in the elections.

The municipality representatives in 78 Turkish provinces have been defined, according to preliminary stats.

The candidates from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) won in 49 provinces, the Republican People's Party (CHP) - in 12 provinces, Peace and Democracy Party - in nine provinces and the National Action Party (MHP) - in seven provinces.

Mardin was the only province where an independent candidate was victorious in the elections.
